The African Trans Network (ATN) is recruiting a consultant regional coordinator to lead the management and operations of the ATN.

About the ATN

The ATN was formed in 2020, with a clear mission is to strengthen the human rights advocacy and networking capacity of Trans movements. The creation of a pan-African transgender network that would be representative of trans-voices from across the region as heard from the Eastern, Western, Northern, Central, and Southern Africa sub-regions. ATN currently plays a coordinating role of sub regional networks with an aim of creating a strong and resilient Pan African Trans Movement. 

Our work is centered around continental change and advancing trans rights, identifying the needs and documenting the struggles and complex issues of Trans persons on the continent, and representing the Trans community in a unified way to be able to advance the rights movement and create an alternative space for justice and equality.

The ATN Steering Committee is looking to recruit a consultant that can take lead as the regional coordinator for the African Trans Network to oversee and manage this growth phase.

Job Description

Are you passionate about advocating for and supporting the transgender community? We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Regional Coordinator to join our team at the Africa Trans Network . As a Consultant Regional Coordinator , you will play a vital role in the organization leading and overseeing the organisation programs for it to achieve it mission and goals.  

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Develop strategic plans and documents for the ATN in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage various programs and initiatives within the region, ensuring they are delivered effectively and meet set targets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners, and community organizations within the region to facilitate collaboration and resource sharing.
  • Supervise, train, and support staff or volunteers working for the ATN to ensure effective implementation of programs and projects.
  • Direct involvement in monitoring the progress of programs, track key performance indicators, and evaluate outcomes to assess the impact and effectiveness of initiatives.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for programs and projects. 
  • Prepare regular reports on activities, outcomes, and progress of ATN to the organizational leadership, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for the organization’s mission and priorities at regional and international level. 
  • Identify capacity-building needs within the region and implement strategies to strengthen the skills and abilities of partners and community members.
  • Address any issues or challenges that arise within the region promptly and effectively, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on program delivery.

Reporting

The Consultant Regional coordinator reports to ATN Steering Committee

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Excellent project management skills, organizational skills, and strong attention to detail. 
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree 
  • Demonstrated history of organizing successful projects.
  • Excellent written and public speaking communication skills; the majority of ATN’s work is in English, however, multi-lingual applicants would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies and audiences, in and with diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to work remotely and independently, prioritize and complete multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the gender justice work. 
  • High level of proficiency with computers and other technology, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, WordPress, Google Suite
  • Uphold the values and integrity of the ATN.
  • Budget preparations and financial literacy on grant management is key.
