Safety, Dignity, and Freedom, is a five-country campaign (Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe) which aims to create media focused content in addressing stigma, violence, and other issues faced by the LGBTI community within these countries. Through the research component, which tested the existing perceptions, social constructs, and attitudes consumers of the media hold in relation to the LGBTI community, the campaign aims to inform minds, change perceptions, and deal with violence and stigma, through effective media content to strategically communicate LGBTI issues within the region.
Iranti is therefore looking to recruit a Coordinator to provide support to the media and communications team. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and energetic with an understanding and passion for LGBTI rights in the region as well as media making.
Duration:
10 months. (2-3 days a week)
Responsibilities:
• Organise and manage all logistics and administrative tasks relating to the media campaign
• Assist in the planning of meetings
• Make travel arrangements in line with Iranti’s policies, rules and procedures;
• Assist in the creation of a media database
• Validate, file and update inputs for media database
• Manage and monitor project expenditure
• Liaise with partner organisations involved in the campaign
• Liaise with relevant media makers involved in the campaign
• Assist in researching public platforms
• Compile report by the end of the campaign
• Ensure all project activities comply with the policies and regulations of various funding partners
• Ensure quality and the timeous delivery of project activities
Formal Requirements:
• Minimum of two-year relevant work experience
• A strong relationship with mainstream media
• Ability to plan, manage and coordinate projects, partners, people, budgets
• Confident in the use of information and communication technology, including Microsoft Excel and Word
• Attention to detail with a high level of initiative;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Some experience in Human Rights and development sector work.
• Fluency in English and ability to write quality reports;
• Project management experience is advantageous
