Iranti is a human rights NGO that advocates for the rights and protections of Lesbian, Trans and Intersex (LTI) persons. Iranti’s advocacy strategy employs the tactical use of multi-media, research and public awareness initiatives to build and advance human rights for LTI persons in the region.

Iranti seeks to fill the following vacancy:

Specialist in Programmes and Advocacy: Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer Rights Officer (LBQ Rights Officer)

The key responsibilities of the Specialist: Programmes and Advocacy (LBQ) are:

  • Translate and implement the Iranti’s Organisational Strategy and Advocacy Framework for the LBQ constituency to protect and advance the human rights of LBQ persons and leverage Iranti’s impact. Iranti defines LBQ as womxn who are feminist cisgender, transgender, non-binary, queer and intersex. Pronouns in this category are usually “She, Her; They, Them”.
  • Coordinate and integrate Iranti’s Programme of Action (inclusive of media and research) for the LBQ community nationally, regionally and globally.
  • Translate programmatic objectives into relevant advocacy public awareness materials for the LBQ community to ensure high quality delivery of events, activities and communications necessary per the Advocacy Strategy
  • Build and maintaining strategic partnerships with partner organisations to enable buy-in and joint ownership in meeting desired policy agenda outcomes.
  • Advise Iranti and the strategic partner networks on emerging and current legislation affecting the LBQ community and its potential impact on the work of Iranti.
  • Regularly review plans and priorities with the team to make the most of emerging opportunities and potential tactics, and review implementation challenges to enable swift remedial action where required.

The ideal Specialist Programmes and Advocacy; LBQ will be a graduate in law or social studies with 2-5 years’ experience working in an advocacy role within the human rights sector. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, strong strategic conceptualisation, research and project management skills. We are looking for advanced technical advocacy and stakeholder management skills with a good understanding of the LGBTI sector and knowledge of the advocacy issues relating to LTI persons.
